<p><em>Born:</em> December 19, 1789, County Limerick, Ireland.</p>
|
|
<p><em>Died:</em> October 1870.</p>
|
|
<p class="just">Son of the vicar of Cahirelly, diocese of Cashel, Seymour spent much time in literary pursuits from an early age. At age 21, he published <em>Vital Christianity Exhibited in a Series of Letters on the Most Important Subjects of Religion, Addressed to Young Persons</em>. This work, written during an illness, contains several of his hymns and other poetical pieces. He also edited a new edition of Dr. Gillies’ <em>Life of Whitefield</em>, and wrote a “Memoir,” which was prefixed to the <em>Reliques of Ancient Irish Poetry, by Miss Charlotte Brooke</em>, 1816. His most important work was his <em>Life and Times of <a href = "./hymns/hymns_bio/bio_h_u_huntingdon_c.html" >Selina, Countess of Huntingdon</a></em>, 1839. Seymour lived for some time in Naples, Italy (<em>circa</em> 1839-1847), then at Bristol, England.</p>
