<p>The reason we need to be born again is because we were lost in sin before believing in Christ. The Bible says the following about our condition prior to believing.</p>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>1. We Are Lost</b>
|
|
<p>The Scripture pictures all humanity as being lost.
|
|
<blockquote><p>For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost (<a id="nbi510-si1" onClick="return mV('Mat',18,11);">Mat 18:11</a>).</p>
|
|
<p>But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing (<a id="nbi510-si2" onClick="return mV('2Cr',4,3);">2Cr 4:3</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<b><br>2.We Have Been Condemned</b>
|
|
<p>We were condemned by God for our sins.
|
|
<blockquote><p>He who believes is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (<a id="nbi510-si3" onClick="return mV('Jhn',3,18);">Jhn 3:18</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<b><br>3. We Are Guilty before God</b>
|
|
<p>The entire world is guilty before God.
|
|
<blockquote><p>Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God (<a id="nbi510-si4" onClick="return mV('Rom',3,19);">Rom 3:19</a>).</p></BLOCKQUOTE>

|
|
|
<p><b>4. We Are Enemies of God</b>
|
|
<p>All of us are God's enemies prior to believing in Jesus:
|
|
<blockquote><p>For when we were his enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son (<a id="nbi510-si5" onClick="return mV('Rom',5,10);">Rom 5:10</a>).</p>
|
|
<p>And you, who were once alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled (<a id="nbi510-si6" onClick="return mV('Col',1,21);">Col 1:21</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>5. We Are Spiritually Dead</b>
|
|
<p>A person is dead spiritually before trusting Christ:
|
|
<blockquote><p>And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins (<a id="nbi510-si7" onClick="return mV('Eph',2,1);">Eph 2:1</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<b><br>6. We Are Separated from God</b>
|
|
<p>Our sins have kept us separated from God.
|
|
<blockquote><p>Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart (<a id="nbi510-si8" onClick="return mV('Eph',4,18);">Eph 4:18</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>7. We Are Without Hope</b>
|
|
<p>Apart from Jesus Christ humanity has no hope:
|
|
<blockquote><p>That in that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world (<a id="nbi510-si9" onClick="return mV('Eph',2,12);">Eph 2:12</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>Summary</b>
|
|
<p>The Bible says that humanity, apart from Jesus Christ, is in the following condition:</p>
|
|
<p>1. Lost</p>
|
|
<p>2. Condemned</p>
|
|
<p>3. Guilty before God</p>
|
|
<p>4. An enemy of God</p>
|
|
<p>5. Spiritually dead</p>
|
|
<p>6. Separated from God</p>
|
|
<p>7. Without hope.</p>
|
|
<p>It is because of these reasons a person needs Christ as Savior.</p>
|
