<p>When we compare what the Scripture has to say about the different members of the Trinity, we can see that each of them performs divine works. The Scriptures list the following works where each member of the Trinity is singled out as doing.</p>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>1. Each Is the Creator of the Universe</b></p>
|
|
<p>Each member of the Trinity was involved in the creation process.</p>
|
|
<p>God the Father declared.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>I, the Lord, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by myself. And spreading out the earth all alone (<a id="nbi329-si1" onClick="return mV('Isa',44,24);">Isa 44:24</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>John wrote the following about Jesus.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>All things came into being through him, and apart from him nothing came into being that has come into being (<a id="nbi329-si2" onClick="return mV('Jhn',1,3);">Jhn 1:3</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The Spirit is the one who gives life. Job said.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life (<a id="nbi329-si3" onClick="return mV('Job',33,4);">Job 33:4</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Although each is the Creator, there is only one Creator.</p>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>2. Each Member of the Trinity Created Humanity</b></p>
|
|
<p>All three members of the Trinity accomplished the creation of humankind. Of God the Father the Bible says.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture (<a id="nbi329-si4" onClick="return mV('Psa',100,3);">Psa 100:3</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Jesus made everything. This would include creating humankind.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Through him [Jesus] all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (<a id="nbi329-si5" onClick="return mV('Jhn',1,3);">Jhn 1:3</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The Holy Spirit is the one who gives the breath of life.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life (<a id="nbi329-si6" onClick="return mV('Job',33,4);">Job 33:4</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>3. Each Member Is a Lawgiver</b></p>
|
|
<p>The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all Lawgivers.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin (<a id="nbi329-si7" onClick="return mV('Rom',7,25);">Rom 7:25</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Scripture speaks of the law of Christ.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ (<a id="nbi329-si8" onClick="return mV('Gal',6,2);">Gal 6:2</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>There is also the law of the Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death (<a id="nbi329-si9" onClick="return mV('Rom',8,2);">Rom 8:2</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>4. They Each Raise the Dead</b></p>
|
|
<p>The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all participate in raising the dead.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it (<a id="nbi329-si10" onClick="return mV('Jhn',5,21);">Jhn 5:21</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Jesus will someday raise the dead.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear his voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. "I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me" (<a id="nbi329-si11" onClick="return mV('Jhn',5,'28-30');">Jhn 5:28-30</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The Holy Spirit also raises the dead.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you (<a id="nbi329-si12" onClick="return mV('Rom',8,11);">Rom 8:11</a>).</p></blockquote>

|
|
|
<p><b>5. Each of Them Raised Jesus Christ</b></p>
|
|
<p>The Trinity was involved in the resurrection of Christ.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also (<a id="nbi329-si13" onClick="return mV('1Cr',6,14);">1Cr 6:14</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Jesus also raised Himself.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." the Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" But the temple he had spoken of was his body (<a id="nbi329-si14" onClick="return mV('Jhn',2,19,20);">Jhn 2:19-20</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The Holy Spirit also raised Christ.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit (<a id="nbi329-si15" onClick="return mV('1Pe',3,18);">1Pe 3:18</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>6. Each Member Commissions the Ministry</b></p>
|
|
<p>Each member of the Holy Trinity commissions the ministry.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life (<a id="nbi329-si16" onClick="return mV('2Cr',3,5,6);">2Cr 3:5-6</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Paul wrote to Timothy that Christ commissioned the ministry.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service (<a id="nbi329-si17" onClick="return mV('1Ti',1,12);">1Ti 1:12</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The Book of Acts says that the Holy Spirit commissions the ministry.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with his own blood (<a id="nbi329-si18" onClick="return mV('Act',20,28);">Act 20:28</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>7. Each One Sets Apart God's People</b></p>
|
|
<p>The Trinity is involved in setting apart God's people for service. Jude wrote of Jesus.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ (<a id="nbi329-si19" onClick="return mV('Jud',1,'1-');">Jud 1</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The writer to the Hebrews said of God the Father.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters (<a id="nbi329-si20" onClick="return mV('Hbr',2,11);">Hbr 2:11</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Paul wrote about the Holy Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>To be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit (<a id="nbi329-si21" onClick="return mV('Rom',15,16);">Rom 15:16</a>).</p></blockquote>

|
|
|
<p><b>8. Each Performs Special Ministries</b></p>
|
|
<p>The Bible says that all members of the Trinity perform special ministries.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons (<a id="nbi329-si22" onClick="return mV('1Cr',12,6);">1Cr 12:6</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Paul wrote of Jesus.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all (<a id="nbi329-si23" onClick="return mV('Col',3,11);">Col 3:11</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>He said of the Holy Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines (<a id="nbi329-si24" onClick="return mV('1Cr',12,11);">1Cr 12:11</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>9. Each Was Involved in the Composition of Scripture</b></p>
|
|
<p>All three members of the Godhead were actively involved in the composition of Scripture.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe (<a id="nbi329-si25" onClick="return mV('Hbr',1,1,2);">Hbr 1:1-2</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Peter wrote of Christ.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow (<a id="nbi329-si26" onClick="return mV('1Pe',1,10,11);">1Pe 1:10-11</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Peter said the following about the Holy Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (<a id="nbi329-si27" onClick="return mV('2Pe',1,21);">2Pe 1:21</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>10. Each One Indwells Believers</b></p>
|
|
<p>God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all said to indwell believers. Paul wrote.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (<a id="nbi329-si28" onClick="return mV('Eph',4,6);">Eph 4:6</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Of Jesus Paul said.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God (<a id="nbi329-si29" onClick="return mV('Col',3,1);">Col 3:1</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>He said of the Holy Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own (<a id="nbi329-si30" onClick="return mV('1Cr',6,19);">1Cr 6:19</a>)</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>11. Each One Keeps Believers Secure</b></p>
|
|
<p>All three members of the Trinity are involved in keeping the believer secure.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand (<a id="nbi329-si31" onClick="return mV('Jhn',10,29);">Jhn 10:29</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Paul wrote of Jesus Christ keeping the believer secure.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (<a id="nbi329-si32" onClick="return mV('Phl',1,6);">Phl 1:6</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>The security of the believer is also the work of the Holy Spirit.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory (<a id="nbi329-si33" onClick="return mV('Eph',1,13,14);">Eph 1:13-14</a>).</p></blockquote>

|
<p><b>Summary</b></p>
|
|
<p>Each member of the Trinity has divine works attributed to him. The Bible says that the creation of the universe was accomplished by the work of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. In addition, each member of the Trinity created humanity. Scripture says that each member of the Trinity is a lawgiver. The Bible says that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit raise the dead. Each Person of the Trinity brought Jesus Christ back from the dead. Each member of the Trinity commissions the ministry. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit accomplish the setting apart of God's people. The writing of Scripture involved the Trinity. Each member of the Trinity indwells believers. Finally, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all contribute to the security of the believer.</p>
