<p>The Bible says that when this mighty angel fell, he became the Devil. Scripture gives us some insight into what it was that caused the fall of this angel.
|
|

|
<p><b>1. Pride</b>
|
|
<p>As we examine the Bible, we find that pride was a factor in Satan's fall. In a passage that may speak of the original fall of this anointed angel, we read the following.
|
|
<blockquote><p>Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you (<a id="nbi75-si1" onClick="return mV('Eze',28,17);">Eze 28:17</a>).</p></blockquote>

<p><b>New Testament Connection</b>
|
|
<p>The New Testament also connects the sin of pride with the Devil.
|
|
<blockquote><p>not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the Devil (<a id="nbi75-si2" onClick="return mV('1Ti',3,6);">1Ti 3:6</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>God's View of Pride</b>
|
|
<p>Pride is at the top of the list of sins that God hates.
|
|
<blockquote><p>There are six things which the LORD hates; Yes, seven which are an abomination unto Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood (<a id="nbi75-si3" onClick="return mV('Pro',6,16,17);">Pro 6:16-17</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>"Haughty eyes," or pride, is at the top of the list of the things the Lord hates. The Bible warns us what pride will lead to.
|
|
<blockquote><p>Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall (<a id="nbi75-si4" onClick="return mV('Pro',16,18);">Pro 16:18</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>2. Selfish Ambition</b>
|
|
<p>A second cause for the fall of Satan was a selfish ambition - the desire to be something that he was not. In another passage that appears to give us insight around his fall, we read the following.
|
|
<blockquote><p>How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High" (<a id="nbi75-si5" onClick="return mV('Isa',14,'12-14');">Isa 14:12-14</a>).</p></blockquote>

<p>This angel led a rebellion against God - a rebellion that will only end when he is thrown into the lake of fire.
|
|
|
|
<p><b>Summary</b>
|
|
<p>The fall of the angel who became the Devil seems to be rooted in two basic sins - pride and selfish ambition. These sins caused his downfall, as well as the downfall of those angels who went with him. It has also been the downfall of many people since that time.<br>
