<p>Some people assume that God could never forgive them because their lives have been too corrupt. They do not believe God would have anything to do with them. Yet the Bible teaches that no matter how bad anyone has been, forgiveness is still possible. No one will be denied access to God because they have lived sinful lives. God sent Christ to seek out and save sinners. Jesus said:</p>

<blockquote><p>I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance (<a id="nbi1392-si1" onClick="return mV('Mat',9,13);">Mat 9:13</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>All Who Come to Him Can Be Forgiven</b></p>
|
|
<p>When a person comes humbly to God for forgiveness He has promised to forgive them no matter what they have done. Jesus said:</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>All the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out (<a id="nbi1392-si2" onClick="return mV('Jhn',6,37);">Jhn 6:37</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>Forgiveness Comes from the Righteousness of Jesus Christ</b></p>
|
|
<p>Forgiveness is based upon the righteousness of Jesus Christ.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>He made him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him (<a id="nbi1392-si3" onClick="return mV('2Cr',5,21);">2Cr 5:21</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Since Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, we do not have to suffer for them ourselves.</p>
|
|
|
|
<p><b>God's Forgiveness Is Complete</b></p>
|
|
<p>The forgiveness that God grants is complete.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us (<a id="nbi1392-si4" onClick="return mV('Psa',103,12);">Psa 103:12</a>).</p></blockquote>
|
|
<p>Micah wrote.</p>
|
|
<blockquote><p>He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea (<a id="nbi1392-si5" onClick="return mV('Mic',7,19);">Mic 7:19</a>).</p></blockquote>
|

<p>Once a person asks God for forgiveness, their sins are both forgiven and forgotten. They are forgotten in the sense that God does not hold it against them.</p>
|

<p><b>Summary</b></p>
|
|
<p>God has promised to forgive anybody who comes to Him by faith. God's forgiveness is based upon the righteousness of Jesus, not our own. The forgiveness He offers is complete. He will not hold any of our sins against us. Believers are told to forgive others as God has forgiven us.</p>
