<P>The Blue Letter Bible team has started preparatory work on the Septuagint texts. Our primary goal is to reconcile for the reader the differences in verse order and verse content between the Septuagint Greek texts on the one hand, and the Hebrew and English texts on the other hand. In many places the differences are slight, amounting to a verse here and there. In the Psalms, the differences are greater, and greater still in Jeremiah, where a variant Hebrew source text may have been used by the original LXX scholars.</p>

<P>Work by the Blue Letter Bible team was performed in the following phases:</P>
|
||
<P><B>Phase I:</b> After much prayer and work, the BLB team has completed a version of the Septuagint Greek Old Testament which uses millions of tiny images tags to display the Greek texts. No fonts are required. The advantage of this method is that users with very little web know-how/time can immediately read the Greek texts, without downloading fonts, installing software, etc. It can be used on web tv products, behind firewalls, etc. The disadvantage of this method is that the files are larger, because of all the image tags in the HTML code. Thus this delivery method is suitable for verse-by-verse Bible Study. A font-based version for chapter-by-chapter reading may be released in the future.</P>

<p><b>Phase II:</b> Using the CCATs data base, footnotes were created for verses where there is a difference in content/verse order between the Hebrew and Greek texts. Where such differences exist, a footnote link appears directly below the Greek Septuagint Scroll (visible by clicking the <a HREF="./info_septuagint.html#ccat" onClick="return parentOpener('./h.html');"><b>"C" button</b></a> next to any Old Testament verse). Clicking on this footnote link will take you to pages where discrepancies of verse order/content between versions is noted.</P>

<p><b>Phase III:</b> Some portions of the Bible have small, consistant differences in verse numbering between the Hebrew and Septuagint texts. For example, in the Psalms, most of the Psalms are "off" by one chapter. That is, Psalm 119 in the Hebrew/English is Psalm 118 in the Greek. In these cases, we will display Psalm 118 Greek next to the Psalm 119 Hebrew/English, to aid the user in Bible Study. Currently only footnotes noting the discrepancy are given.</P></FONT>
