<p>Some people feel that the more gifts one has, the more spiritual he becomes. But the Bible does not equate spiritual gifts with being spiritual.</p>
|
|
<p>The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian church that they were second to none in the matter of spiritual gifts:
|
|
<blockquote><p>You were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ (<a id="nbi500-si1" onClick="return mV('1Cr',1,'5-7');">1Cr 1:5-7</a>).</p></blockquote>

<p>However, this same church, which had many spiritual gifts, was described in the following manner:
|
|
<blockquote><p>And I brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual <i>people</i> but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ...for you are still carnal. For where <i>there are</i> envy strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like <i>mere</i> men? (<a id="nbi500-si2" onClick="return mV('1Cr',3,1,3);">1Cr 3:1, 3</a>).</p></blockquote>

|
<p>This church was ravaged with problems. Therefore, it is not accurate to equate spiritual gifts with spiritual maturity. The gifts of the Spirit are the means. The fruit of the Spirit is the desired goal.
|
|
<blockquote><p>But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (<a id="nbi500-si3" onClick="return mV('Gal',5,22,23);">Gal 5:22-23</a>).</blockquote>
