<p class="just">In 1702, Schmolck became pastor of Schweidnitz, Silesia, one of the three <em>Friedenskirchen</em> (Protestant churches) in Catholic Silesia. He became much involved in polemic struggles with the Catholic <em>Gegenreformation</em> (counter-reformation). In the last years of his life he became blind and paralyzed.</p>
