<p class="just">Milman was educated at Greenwich and Eton, England. He then attended B. N. C. at Oxford, where he took a first class in classics, and won the Newdigate, Latin Verse, Latin Essay, and English Essay prizes. He wrote the tragedy <em>Fazio</em>, which played at Covent Garden, London. He was appointed Poetry Professor at Oxford in 1821. <em>The Brampton Letters</em> in 1827 marked his transition to theological study, followed by his <em>History of the Jews</em> in 1829. He became canon at Westminster and rector at St. Margaret’s, and, in 1849, dean of St. Paul’s. Thirteen of his hymns were published in <a href = "./hymns/hymns_bio/bio_h_e_heber_r.html" >Heber</a>’s (posthumous) <em>Hymns</em> (1827), and in Milman’s own <em>Selection of Psalms and Hymns</em> (1837).
