<h2>355. SEVEN "IT IS ENOUGHS"</h2>
|
|
<p>The principal thought in connection with the words "It is enough," is, that a requirement has been met, or satisfaction has been given.</p>
|
|
<p>1. <b>Pharaoh's cry of fear.</b> "Entreat the Lord (for <i>it is enough</i>) that there be no more mighty thunderings" (<a id="fem355-si1" onclick="return mV('Exd',9,28);">Exd 9:28</a>). When the sinner sees that his sin calls forth the judgment of God, it makes him cry out with dread.</p>

<p>2. <b>The Saviour's word of resignation.</b> "<i>It is enough</i>, the hour is come" (<a id="fem355-si2" onclick="return mV('Mar',14,41);">Mar 14:41</a>). Christ knew it was inevitable that He should be delivered into the hands of wicked men, and be crucified, that the purpose of God might be fulfilled (<a id="fem355-si3" onclick="return mV('Act',2,23);">Act 2:23</a>).</p>

<p>3. <b>Jehovah's word of satisfaction.</b> "<i>It is enough</i>: stay now thine hand" (<a id="fem355-si4" onclick="return mV('2Sa',24,16);">2Sa 24:16</a>; <a id="fem355-si5" onclick="return mV('1Ch',21,15);">1Ch 21:15</a>), were the words of Jehovah to the destroying angel as He punished Israel for David's sin. The sacrifices offered up stayed the hand of God in judgment (<a id="fem355-si6" onclick="return mV('2Sa',24,25);">2Sa 24:25</a>; <a id="fem355-si7" onclick="return mV('Eph',5,2);">Eph 5:2</a>).</p>

<p>4. <b>Jacob's cry of assurance.</b> "They told him all the words of Joseph," &c. "Israel said, <i>it is enough</i>" (<a id="fem355-si8" onclick="return mV('Gen',45,27,28);">Gen 45:27-28</a>). The words of our Divine Joseph assure us of our interest in Him (<a id="fem355-si9" onclick="return mV('Jhn',3,36);">Jhn 3:36</a>; <a id="fem355-si10" onclick="return mV('Jhn',5,24);">Jhn 5:24</a>); and of His joy in us (<a id="fem355-si11" onclick="return mV('Neh',8,10);">Neh 8:10</a>).</p>

<p>5. <b>Christ's word of fellowship.</b> "<i>It is enough</i> for the disciple that he be as his Master" (<a id="fem355-si12" onclick="return mV('Mat',10,25);">Mat 10:25</a>). It should be a joy to the disciples of Christ, that they are privileged to suffer for Him (<a id="fem355-si13" onclick="return mV('Act',5,41);">Act 5:41</a>), and with Him (<a id="fem355-si14" onclick="return mV('Phl',3,10);">Phl 3:10</a>).</p>

<p>6. <b>The Lord's word of approbation.</b> "Here are two swords. And He said, <i>It is enough</i>" (<a id="fem355-si15" onclick="return mV('Luk',22,38);">Luk 22:38</a>). The Lord often allows His people to have things for Him, which He does not need. He looks at the heart's desire more than the blundering hand.</p>

<p>7. <b>Elijah's cry of discouragement.</b> "He requested for himself that he might die; and said, <i>It is enough</i>" (<a id="fem355-si16" onclick="return mV('1Ki',19,4);">1Ki 19:4</a>). What a mercy it is that the Lord does not do as we wish, but that He answers our prayers as He knows best for our good!</p>
