What Is God's Conditional Providence?

There is a providence of God that extends only to believers. This is known as conditional providence. The subjects of this providence must meet certain conditions before God can extend His grace in these areas. The areas believers must meet are obedience, prayer, and faith.

Prayer

Jesus said that we should pray.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them (Mar 11:24).

We are to ask for things in His name.

And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son (Jhn 14:13-14).

Believers are to abide in Him

If you abide in me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you (Jhn 15:7).

Paul wrote.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phl 4:6-7).

James said.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (Jam 5:14-16).

When believers obey the Lord then God has promised to do certain things.

Summary

God's conditional providence is directed only at those who believe in Him. It is extended to those who meet certain criteria such as obedience, prayer, and faith. When believers obey the Lord in these areas then God especially provides for them.
