<div class="SSN_rnum">I. "I SPEAK NOT OF YOU ALL; I KNOW WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. In <a onClick="return mV('Jhn',6,70);">John 6:70</a> Jesus said, "Have not I chosen you twelve yet one of you is a devil."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. Judas was very skillful in deceiving the other disciples, but he never deceived Jesus.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. When Jesus identified Judas as the one that should betray Him by handing him the sop, he then said to him, "What you do, do quickly." When Judas left the room, the other disciples thought that Jesus had sent him out to get some supplies.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. Inasmuch as Judas kept the purse, Jesus probably many times sent him off to buy something.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. You may be very clever in deceiving men, but the man who thinks he is deceiving God is himself deceived.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. Judas was chosen by the Lord to be a disciple with the full knowledge that he would later turn and betray him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. His life was marked by greed.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. When Mary poured the expensive ointment on the feet of Jesus, it was Judas that objected, declaring that the ointment could have been sold and the money used for the poor. John tells us that it was not that he cared for the poor, but that he kept the purse, and had been theiving out of it.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. It was greed for the reward money that caused him to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. Jesus knew the scriptures and the prophecies concerning Himself. To the disciples on the road to Emmaus he began at Moses and went through the prophets telling them the scriptures that referred to His suffering and death.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">5. He was aware of the words of <a onClick="return mV('Psa',41,1);">Psalm 41</a> that spoke of the Messiah.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. He that eateth bread with Me hath lifted up his heel against Me.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. To me it is interesting that Jesus had just washed the feet of Judas, which must have included his heel also.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">D. The story of the betrayal by Judas has been the center of much theological debate.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. Did Judas have a choice in the matter?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. Was Judas ever a true disciple?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. We must leave the debate to the theologians who have nothing better with which to occupy their time.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">II. "NOW I TELL YOU BEFORE IT COMES TO PASS, THAT WHEN IT COMES TO PASS, YOU MAY BELIEVE THAT I AM HE."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. A part of the purpose of prophecy is to offer proof that God is God, that He is eternal and dwells outside of time.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. James said, "Known unto Him are all things from the beginning."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. In <a onClick="return mV('Isa',44,7);">Isa. 44:7</a>, God said, "Who as I call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me since I appointed the ancient people: and the things that are coming, and shall come let them shew unto them."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. In <a onClick="return mV('Isa',43,9);">Isa. 43:9</a>, "Who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear and say, It is the truth."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. In <a onClick="return mV('Isa',42,9);">Isaiah 42:9</a>, "Behold the former things come to pass, and the new things I declare before they spring forth, I tell you of them."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">5. God gave a direct challenge in <a onClick="return mV('Isa',41,22);">Isa. 41:22</a>, "Let them bring them forth and show us what shall happen, let them show the former things, what they be that we may consider them and know the latter end, or declare us things for to come. Show the the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. We say that God is eternal and that He dwells outside of the time continuum. Can this be proved?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. In <a onClick="return mV('Jhn',14,29);">John 14:29</a>, again Jesus said, "I have told you before it comes to pass that when it comes to pass, you might believe.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. The Lord was offering proof of the fact that He was the true God by telling in advance the events that would transpire.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. Not only was He fulfilling prophecy proving that He was the promised Messiah, but He was also giving prophecy to prove the same truth.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">III. "VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU." WHENEVER JESUS USED THESE WORDS, THEY WERE TO LEND SPECIAL EMPHASIS TO THE TRUTH THAT WAS ABOUT TO BE DECLARED.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. It was the equivalent of saying, "Make no mistake about this," or "Here is truth that cannot be questioned."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. "He that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth Me, and He that receives Me, receives Him that sent Me."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. It is interesting how completely Jesus indentified Himself with His disciples.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. To receive His disciple was equivalent to receiving Him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. In <a onClick="return mV('Luk',10,16);">Luke 10:16</a>, Jesus said, "He who hears, you hear Me; and he who despises, you despise Me; and he that despises Me, despises Him who sent Me."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. When Jesus comes back to the earth and gathers the nations for judgment, He will say to those on His right hand, "Come you blessed of the Father, inherit the Kingdom that has been planned for you from the foundation of the earth, for I was hungry, and you gave Me meat, thirsty and you gave Me to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, naked and you clothed Me, sick and you visited Me, in prison and you came to Me." They then questioned, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and thirsty," etc. And He answered, "Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of these the least of My brothers, you have done it unto Me."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">D. Satan is always getting on our cases, he seeks to convince you that the Lord is not really interested in you. That you are one of the least of His servants, that you really count for nothing.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. That is not so in the sight of the Lord. He identifies Himself with the least of His servants.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. He will stand up for you; for people to mistreat you, in His sight is the equivalent of mistreating Him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. In all of our afflictions, He is afflicted.</div>
|
|
