<div class="SSN_title">"REDEMPTION"</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_intro">Intro. Webster's Dictionary defines redeem as: To ransom, free or rescue by paying a price; To free from the consequences of sin. Some of the synonyms for redeem are, reclaim, recover, regain, rescue, save. These all describe what God has done for the sinner.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">I. THE NEED OF REDEMPTION.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. Man had sinned, he ate the fruit of the tree that God commanded he should not eat.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. God had declared that if he ate of the tree, he would surely die.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. The consequence of the action of Adam and Eve was death.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. By his action, Adam had become a slave of Satan, in the kingdom of death and darkness.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. There was nothing that Adam could do to set himself free.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. His action was irreversible, having once sinned, he could never make himself innocent again.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. He may strive the rest of his life to be good, but he could not undo what he had done.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. One of the results of his transgression was the loss of his innocence, he thus became aware of his nakedness.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. He was now body conscious.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. That is a sad byproduct of sin, this body awareness.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">D. His spirit now dead, the body ruled over his mind.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. The lusts of his flesh now began to rule his life.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. He was now living like the beasts, he was living on the animal plane of existence.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">II. ADAM'S ATTEMPT TO COVER HIS SIN.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves together to try to cover their nakedness.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. Have you ever felt a fig leaf? They are sort of scratchy.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. When you pick off a fig leaf, a white sap oozes out the stem that is sort of like a sticky glue.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. I am certain that their covering was not the most pleasant in the world.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. This is where we read in our text, that God made them coats of skins.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. God gave them fur coats.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. This necessitated the death of an animal.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. This is the beginning of animal sacrifices to make a covering for sin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. The Hebrew word is Kophar, which means covering, and is translated in the Old Testament as atonement.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. By making a covering for their nakedness with coats of skins, God was indicating that man needed to sacrifice an animal to cover the guilt of his sin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. The consequence of sin was death.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. An animal could be substituted for the guilty sinner.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">D. Very early in the history of man, the sacrifices of animals to the the Lord was begun to be practiced as a covering for the guilt of sin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Gen',4,3);">GEN 4:3</a> And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Gen',4,4);">GEN 4:4</a> And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">E. In obedience to the commandment of God to Abraham to offer his son his only son Issac as a burnt offering sacrifice, as Abraham in faith was about to obey the commandment of God, God stopped him and directed him to a ram, caught by it's horns in a thicket, and Abraham was told to offer the ram in the place of his son.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. From this developed further the idea that an animal could be offered as sacrifice instead of the son.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. We see how this was codified in the law.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',4,27);">LEV 4:27</a> And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth [somewhat against] any of the commandments of the LORD [concerning things] which ought not to be done, and be guilty;</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',4,28);">LEV 4:28</a> Or if his sin, which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath sinned.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',4,29);">LEV 4:29</a> And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',4,30);">LEV 4:30</a> And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger, and put [it] upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the altar.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',4,31);">LEV 4:31</a> And the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. It should be noted that the animal sacrifice could make a covering for sin, however it could not put away the sin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. The idea of covering no doubt came from the fact that God covered their nakedness with the skins of animals.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">III. GOD ESTABLISHED LAWS OF REDEMPTION.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. The law for the redemption of property.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,23);">LEV 25:23</a> The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land [is] mine; for ye [are] strangers and sojourners with me.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,24);">LEV 25:24</a> And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,25);">LEV 25:25</a> If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away [some] of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,26);">LEV 25:26</a> And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem it;</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,27);">LEV 25:27</a> Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. The law for the redemption of a person.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,47);">LEV 25:47</a> If a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother [that dwelleth] by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger [or] sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,48);">LEV 25:48</a> After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Lev',25,49);">LEV 25:49</a> Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or [any] that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. Both of laws come into play in the redemption provided by Jesus.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. First He became a man that he might be next of kin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. He came to redeem the world from Satan.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. Satan knew this and offered Him the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them if Jesus would just bow down and worship him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. In the kingdom parables Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a man going through a field and discovering a treasure, and with joy he goes out and sells everything that He might buy that field so as to obtain the treasure."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. In parables what is the field? "Now the field is the world." Who gave up everything He had in order to purchase this world? Jesus</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. He came to redeem man from the bondage for sin.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. Again the law of God must be fulfilled that required death for the transgressor.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. Jesus took our sins upon Himself, and paid for our sins by dying in our place.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. "All we like sheep had gone astray, we had turned everyone of us to our own way, but God laid on Him the iniquities of us all."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">d. "God made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God through Him."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">e. Unlike the animal sacrifices that could only cover our sins, by the death of Jesus, the Son of God, our sins have been put away.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">f. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">g. Jesus said,</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jhn',3,17);">JOH 3:17</a> For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (redeemed)</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jhn',3,18);">JOH 3:18</a> He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jhn',3,19);">JOH 3:19</a> And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jhn',3,20);">JOH 3:20</a> For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">h. As we go through the Bible, you will find the story of redemption woven through it's pages.</div>
|
|
