<div class="SSN_title">"SPEECHLESS"</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_intro">Intro. God has blessed David immensely. He has expanded his kingdom, he has given to David victory over all of his enemies. The story of David was a true rags to riches story. As David is sitting in the comfort of his palace, he noticed the people going to the Tabernacle to worship God, and the thought came to David to build a beautiful Temple for God where the people could come to worship.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">I. DAVID HAD A CLOSE FRIEND NAMED NATHAN WHO WAS A PROPHET.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. Nathan would often come and spend the afternoon talking to David. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. On this particular afternoon, David shared his idea with Nathan to build a house for God. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. It sounded like a splendid idea to Nathan and he encouraged David to do so, assuring him that the Lord was with him.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. That night Nathan couldn't sleep for God was speaking to him. Basically God told Nathan to take a message to David. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. First of all, God did not want David to build a house for Him. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. That God had never asked that such a thing should be done. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. He was to remind David of his humble beginnings. God had taken him from the sheepcote and from following after the sheep to make him the ruler over the people. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. That God had been with him, wherever he went. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">5. That God had cut off all of his enemies. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">6. That God had given him a great name, and he would go down with the names of the great men in history. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">7. And rather than David making the Lord a house, God would make him a house. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">8. That after David's death, God would set up David's seed after him, and that God would establish His kingdom. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">9. That He would build a house for God's name and that God would establish the throne of His kingdom forever.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. It is quite obvious that God is promising that the Messiah would be a descendant of David. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. The promise that He would build a house for God's name does not refer to Solomon building the earthly temple for God. But to the spiritual house that Jesus, the son of David, would build.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Zec',6,'12-13');">ZEC 6:12-13</a> Behold the man whose name is The Branch; HE SHALL BUILD THE TEMPLE of the Lord. Even HE SHALL BUILD THE TEMPLE of the Lord; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his THRONE,</div>

<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Cr',3,16);">1CO 3:16</a> Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwells in you?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Eph',2,20);">EPH 2:20</a> And we are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; In whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are built together for a dwelling place of God through the Spirit.</div>

<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Hbr',3,6);">HEB 3:6</a> But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Pe',2,5);">1PE 2:5</a> Ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. The main objection to accepting this as a prophecy of the Messiah is verse 14 in which the translation reads "I will be His Father, and He shall be My Son. If He commits iniquity, I will chastise Him with the rod of men." We know that Jesus could not commit iniquity. That same passage can and I believe should be translated in the passive rather than the active, and the translation would thus be: "I will be His Father, and He shall be My Son: IN HIS SUFFERING FOR INIQUITY, I shall chasten Him with the rod of men (with the rod due to men), and with the stripes (due to) the children of man. This construction is well supported by <a onClick="return mV('Isa',53,'4-5');">Isa. 53:4-5</a>: He hath carried OUR SORROWS, (<i>i.e.</i> the sorrows due to us and which we must otherwise have suffered,) he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">D. Suffice it to say that David understood this as a promise from God that the Messiah would come from David's seed and sit upon the throne of David forever. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. This becomes quite apparent when you read the same message of Nathan to David in I Chronicles.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Ch',17,11);">1CH 17:11</a> And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go [to be] with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Ch',17,12);">1CH 17:12</a> He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne forever.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Ch',17,13);">1CH 17:13</a> I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took [it] from [him] that was before thee:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('1Ch',17,14);">1CH 17:14</a> But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom forever: and his throne shall be established for evermore. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. This could not be said of Solomon for Solomon's lineage was cut off from reigning over the throne because of the sins of Jechoniah.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jer',22,30);">JER 22:30</a> Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man [that] shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. This is in keeping with other prophecies concerning Jesus.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Luk',1,32);">LUK 1:32</a> He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Luk',1,33);">LUK 1:33</a> And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. Isaiah prophesied:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Isa',9,7);">ISA 9:7</a> Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Isa',16,5);">ISA 16:5</a> And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. Jeremiah prophesied:</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jer',23,5);">JER 23:5</a> Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_verse"><a onClick="return mV('Jer',23,6);">JER 23:6</a> In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this [is] his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_rnum">II. UNDERSTANDING THE MESSAGE OF THE PROPHET NATHAN TO MEAN THAT THE MESSIAH WOULD BE HIS DESCENDANT DAVID WENT IN BEFORE THE LORD AND OFFERED THIS PRAYER.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">A. David was overwhelmed by the grace of God. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. Who am I, and what is my house that you have brought me to this place.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. I was just a shepherd boy in Bethlehem.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. Now here I am the king over God's people.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. When God has chosen to lift us up, I think that it is very important that we not forget our beginnings.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">d. Paul said, "What do you have that you did not receive? If you received it, why do you boast as though you did not receive it?" </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. But what you have done, is nothing in comparison with what You have declared that you are going to do.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. It was awesome that you took me from being a shepherd of a small flock of sheep, and make me the shepherd over the flock of God, but now you are saying that the Messiah will be a descendant of mine.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. Is this the way of man?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. Who ever heard of anything so wondrous as this?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">B. "What more can I say to you?" </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. What God had already done, was so wonderful but now the contemplation of the promises of God to David were greater than David could comprehend. He was awestruck. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. What more can David say?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. I believe that David was one of the most articulate men in history. We marvel at his ability to articulate his praise and worship of God in the psalms.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. His psalms have brought inspiration to millions throughout the years.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. But sitting here before the Lord with these marvelous promises of the future, David is speechless.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">d. It was Savanarola who said, "When prayer reaches its ultimate, words are impossible." </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. David just says, "You know Your servant."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. Just read my heart Lord.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. Feelings so profound there is no language that can express them.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">c. An overflowing combination of love, appreciation, joy, gratitude, wonder, and blessing.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">d. Have you ever been carried away in such ecstasy?</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level2">C. Stop for a moment and think what the Lord has done for you. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">1. He took you out of the bondage of sin, and forgave all your transgressions. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">2. He delivered you from the kingdom of darkness and adopted you as His child. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">3. He saved you from death, from the penalty of your sin. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">4. He lifted you out of the miry clay, or muck and set your feet upon the Rock Christ Jesus. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">5. He has chosen to dwell in me. Who am I that the Creator of the Universe should choose to fellowship with me and dwell in me? </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">6. If that is not enough, He speaks of the future.</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">a. He has promised you a place in heaven with Him. "I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, ye may be also."</div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level4">b. He has promised that you will live and reign with Him forever. </div>
|
|
<div class="SSN_level3">7. When you stop to meditate upon it, you become as David speechless. What can you say? Just sit and enjoy and let the Lord read your heart.</div>
|
|
