Rom 6:12
- Not a reaction against my guilt
- Not a desire to be happy
- Not to try to be a Christian
- Not because we are afraid of Hell
- The motivation is positive
- I know what Christ has done for me
- I know my new position
- I know God's purpose in me — 1Th 4:3
- To undo the work of sin
- To conform me to Christ
- I know God's honor is involved in the matter of my behavior
- I do not want to disgrace my Lord — 2Ti 2:19
- Therefore, I do not allow sin to rule
- If I allow sin to rule in my body it is a denial of everything I claim in Christ
- The exhortation is possible for us to fulfill
- God is not saying this to a natural man
- This is written to us who believe
- We are dead to Adam
- We are alive to God
- We are not alone
- We have adequate resources
- We are to exercise resistance
