      • "In the light of this truth what kind of person must I be?"
      • What is my position now?
      • What is my motivation to apply Rom 6:12
        • Not a reaction against my guilt
        • Not a desire to be happy
        • Not to try to be a Christian
        • Not because we are afraid of Hell
        • The motivation is positive
          • I know what Christ has done for me
          • I know my new position
          • I know God's purpose in me — 1Th 4:3
            • To undo the work of sin
            • To conform me to Christ
          • I know God's honor is involved in the matter of my behavior
          • I do not want to disgrace my Lord — 2Ti 2:19
          • Therefore, I do not allow sin to rule
          • If I allow sin to rule in my body it is a denial of everything I claim in Christ
    • The exhortation is possible for us to fulfill
      • God is not saying this to a natural man
      • This is written to us who believe
        • We are dead to Adam
        • We are alive to God
          • We are not alone
          • We have adequate resources
        • We are to exercise resistance
      • This is addressed to our will
