"The Lord was with David" (1Sa 18:12, 14, 28). All that David had achieved, and all that He was, were due to the presence of the Lord. The secret of David's greatness (2Sa 5:10), the cause of his victories (2Sa 22:30), the source of his overcoming Goliath (1Sa 17:45), the reason of his wise behaviour (1Sa 18:14), and the strength of his comfort (Psa 23:4), were all found in the Lord's presence with him. To recognise God's presence with us means:—
Rest in walk (Exd 33:14).
Refreshment in trial (Hbr 13:5-6).
Rejoicing in trouble (Act 27:23).
Renewal in weakness (Isa 40:31).
Resource in service (Mat 28:20).
Reflection in life (2Cr 3:18).
Reward in persecution (2Ti 4:17).
