  • The reckoning — realizing the truth about ourselves
    • What is true of Christ is true of us — we are joined to Him
    • Considering ourselves
    • A logical conclusion
    • It is not talking ourselves into something
    • It is the result of truth
    • It is accepting God's Word as true
    • It is counting on that truth
    • It is putting my life on that truth
  • We are to know and count on the fact that we are dead to the rule of sin
    • It does not mean that it is my duty to die to sin
    • It is not a command for me to die to sin
    • It does not mean that I believe sin to be eradicated
    • It does not mean that sin is dead
    • It does not mean "my reckoning" makes me dead to sin
    • We are to reckon something about ourselves as true because it is a fact through our union with Christ. He is dead to the realm of sin and alive to the realm of God
    • No longer under the dominion of death — Jhn 11:25-26

      • Sin can never make us its slave again
    • God's way was not to change the old man but to send it to the cross unto death to release us from it

• We Are to Believe Our Position — We Do Not Experience Our Position

    • We must submit to it
    • We must act upon it

    • Our relationship to sin is exactly the same as Christ"s
