Edward Osler

1798-1863

Born: January 31, 1798, Falmouth, Cornwall, England. Died: March 7, 1863, Truro, Cornwall. Buried: Kenwyn Churchyard, Truro, Cornwall.

Osler began his career as a physician, at Guy’s Hospital in London, and the Swansea Infirmary. However, he quickly migrated to the literary field. For some time he was associated with the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, in both London and Bath. In 1841, he became editor of the Royal Cornwall Gazette, and moved to Truro. His works include:

• Burrowing and Boring Marine Animals
• Church and Bible; The Voyage: a Poem written at Sea, and in the West Indies, and Illustrated by Papers on Natural History, 1830
• Psalms and Hymns Adapted to the Services of the Church of England (with William J. Hall) (London: 1836)
• The Life of Lord Exmouth, 1857
