The Bible records God promising that the seasons would continue as long as the earth was around.

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease (Gen 8:22).

Existence of Famines

Yet, we find biblical examples of times of famines—when there was no food in the land.

There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar (Gen 26:1).

and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. The famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread (Gen 41:54).

Jesus predicted that before He returned, the earth would experience famines.

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places (Mat 24:7)

General Promise

First, this is a general promise of God. The seasons will continue until there is a new heaven and new earth. They will never completely end.

Seasons Continue, Crops Do Not

Though the seasons will continue, the crops will not always grow. There is nothing in this promise that would exclude the possibility of famine in the land. The earth will run its regular cycle of the seasons, but this does not guarantee crops.

Summary

The promise of God to the earth is a general one. While the earth remains, so will the four seasons. Yet there will be times when the land will not yield its crops.
