How can creation be both very good and very bad? When God finished creating He said it was very good.

God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day (Gen 1:31).

However, before the Flood, God saw His creation as very bad.

Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Gen 6:5).

How can both be true?

Perspective of God

The answer lies in the perspective of the statements. Everything was originally created very good. However, this was before the Fall (Gen 3). After the Fall things began to degenerate to the place where God sent His judgment upon the earth by means of a Flood. In Gen 6, God is expressing His unhappiness of what sin has done to His perfect creation, a creation that was perfect in the beginning.

Therefore the simple answer to this problem lies in the perspective from which God made the statement.
