There are several things that a person should look for in choosing a church.

Any Locality

Believers can meet together in any place and have a worship service. In the early church, meetings were held in the homes of people.

Greet also the church in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the first convert in Asia for Christ. (Rom 16:5).

to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: (Phm 1:2).

Bible Teaching

A church must teach from the Bible. This includes going through the books of the Bible and making it understandable to the listener.

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers (Act 2:42).

Christ-Centered

Church should also center upon the person of Jesus Christ.

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1Cr 1:22-23).

Missionary Emphasis

A New Testament church should have an emphasis on the mission field. We have been commanded by God to go and tell the world about Jesus.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Act 1:8).

Summary

It is important that a believer attend a church but not just any church. The church should be centered on Bible teaching, not merely preaching. The teaching should be centered around the person of Christ. Finally, the church should have a hunger to reach the lost for Christ.
