The cloud was the symbol of the Lord's presence, and it was the secret of Israel's protection. Sometimes the cloud was over them; sometimes behind them; and sometimes before them. Thus the Lord was over them to shield; behind them to defend; and before them to lead. So He is with us (Psa 84:11; Psa 91:4, 10; Jhn 10:4). The Lord's presence is the—

4. Secure abode of the upright (Psa 140:13).
5. Source of our joy (Psa 16:11).
6. Satisfier of our need (Exd 33:14).
7. Supporter of our life (Isa 63:9).
8. Supply of our desire (Act 3:19).
